Country Auction on the Pittsboro - Goldston Road in Chatham County North Carolina: China and Spectacles

Top:  A speaker and tripod stand next to an old car.  The auctioneer utilizes a wireless microphone and speaker system to enable all bidders to hear, and to save his voice for the long day of bidding.  The old car, a mid 1960’s Ford Galaxie 500, had been off the road for 20 years (according to the inspection sticker).  With the moss, rust, and lack of a functioning engine clearly prominent, the car brought just two hundred dollars.

Middle: A banana box lies beside a bidder’s chair, holding her winning bids; china, glassware and a gravy boat.

Bottom:  A wood carving and pairs of spectacles await their turn in the bidding under a tent constructed to keep the weather off of many smaller items.  Though the auction day remained sunny throughout, rain had poured non-stop the two previous days.
